More than 1,100 appointees in the Class of 2027 took the oath of allegiance on June 29 and were officially sworn in as basic cadets.

“It’s a special day because they had choices,” stated Brig. Gen. Gavin Marks '96, USAFA’s commandant of cadets. “These basic cadets are some of the best and brightest in our nation. They had likely many opportunities to go to other prestigious universities and colleges and they chose us. They chose to come here to serve their nation at this institution.”

Checkpoints

Mark Hille '97

We dedicated a portion of the June 2023 issue of Checkpoints to posing the question: “What does active participation in the future of the Academy look like?” In doing so, we presume the following: In developing leaders of outstanding character to serve our Air Force, our Space Force and beyond, the Air Force Academy remains an essential national resource.
