Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Mike Gould '76 shares a special video message for all grads and Academy supporters: You're invited as the Air Force Academy Foundation and the Association of Graduates are hosting various events in the Washington, D.C., area surrounding the Air Force vs. Navy football game on Sept. 11. Events are open to the public and include a Topgolf outing, Air Force Academy "Defining Moments" showcase and the "Defining Our Future" campaign launch dinner celebration. That initiative is based on the four-week program used to vet future Marines' leadership, physical fitness and military skills. It will also resemble the physical and mental evaluations that NASA uses for potential astronaut candidates.

Madera Cyber Innovation Center Breaks Ground
Paul '78 and Joan Madera have committed one of the largest individual gifts in Academy history. The generosity of the Maderas and numerous other donors have paved the way for ground to be broken on the Madera Cyber Innovation Center, which will provide space and technology for Academy cyber entities to come together to teach, test and collaborate. The building will be located on the east end of the Cadet Area, overlooking the Stillman Parade Field, and is set to be finished mid-2023.

Prep School Crowdfunding Project
A group of Prep School parents have started a crowdfunding project to help build camaraderie among Air Force Academy Prep School cadet candidates. Donors to the Falcon Funder project will help the cadet candidates relax and build friendships through a variety of activities.

Popovich Leads Team USA To Gold Medal At 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Former Air Force player and assistant coach Gregg Popovich '70 guided the United States men's basketball team to a Gold Medal finish with its 87-82 victory over France at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Saturday, Aug. 7, 20201, in Saitama, Japan. Popovich was the head coach for Team USA.

Former 109th Airlift Wing Commander Promoted
Returning to the base she previously commanded, New York Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Michele Kilgore '92 was promoted to one-star general during a ceremony held at Stratton Air National Guard Base, New York. The promotion comes with her new position at the Pentagon.

Future Fighter
Student pilots assigned to the 58th Fighter Squadron complete required mission sets toward their initial qualification training on the F-35A Lightning II at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. Student pilots including 1st Lt. Benjamin Hawkins '18 and 1st Lt. Amanda Cannon '18 are part of the second-ever IQT course under the 33rd Fighter Wing.

George Koury '93 has been named associate athletic director for recruiting. Koury takes over the recruiting position after 20 years as the head golf coach at the Academy. Assistant golf coach Tyler Goulding '07 has been named interim coach.

Demers Named Director of Hockey
Former Falcon Chad Demers '15 has been named director of hockey at the Air Force Academy. Demers returns to the Academy after spending the last three seasons with the Fargo Force of the USHL, which culminated in a Western Conference Championship and a trip to the Clark Cup Finals last season.
