Flagships of Education
For current or future Air Force commissioned officers, two names represent the pinnacle of education within the force. While these flagship institutions have, up to now, worked mostly independent of one another, Air University and the U.S. Air Force Academy have come together to formally synchronize their efforts for producing future leaders for the service.

Class of 2019: Senior Cadet Reflects on Building a Bridge with National Forest Service
Cadet 1st Class Ryan Howe will be the third Academy graduate in his family, joining his father, a 1988 graduate, and his brother, a 2018 graduate. One of his standout memories from his time at the Academy is tied to a civil engineering project.

600 Miles of Remembrance
Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro will honor Capt Mark Weber '11 during the 600 Miles of Remembrance race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway over the Memorial Day Weekend. Capt. Weber graduated from USAFA in 2011 and went on to become a Combat Rescue Officer and Team Commander with the 308th Rescue Squadron. He perished in a helicopter crash while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq.

USAFE-AFAFRICA Welcomes New Commander
Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigian '85 took command of both U.S. Air Forces in Europe Air Forces Africa and NATO Allied Air Command from Gen. Tod D. Wolters '82 during a ceremony at Ramstein Air Base on May 1. Gen. Wolters is slated to become commander of European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe.

AFSOC Commander Nominated to Head AETC
Lt. Gen. Brad Webb '84, who is currently commander of Air Force Special Operations Command, has been nominated to be the next head of Air Education and Training Command. Webb is a command pilot with more than 3,700 hours flying the MH-53 Pave Low, CV-22B Osprey, UH-1 Huey, MC-130H Combat Talon and MC-130P Combat Shadow. His flight hours include 117 hours in combat. When confirmed, Webb will succeed Lt. Gen. Steven Kwast '86, who has commanded AETC since November 2017.

Air Force Inducts Seventh Athletics Hall of Fame Class
Air Force Athletics inducted its seventh class into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame. The class of volleyball standout and Rhodes Scholar Delavane Diaz '04, hockey All-American Eric Ehn '08, football All-American Chris Gizzi '97, San Antonio Spurs president and head coach Gregg Popovich '70, legendary wrestling coach Wayne Baughman and the 1985 Western Athletic Conference champion football team were honored.

Traumatic Injury Can't Keep Academy Cadet Off Rugby Pitch
Jessica Beyer, a cadet third class, found rugby during her freshman year at the Air Force Academy, and by her sophomore year, she was one of the team captains. Her goal was to win the national championship alongside her teammates girls she said were her sisters.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) sponsors student conferences at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. C1C Reese Fairchild and C1C Matthew Green placed 1st at Region V, and C4C Zachary Eyler placed 2nd.

Ready Breaks Program Records
Senior Nic Ready recorded three hits during a 16-4 win vs. Northern Colorado to break Mike Thiessen's program record set in 2001. Thiessen '01 has been on the Falcon's football coaching staff since 2004. It was a big week for the slugger, as Ready hit his 47th home run as a Falcon the game before, to move past Steve Saleck '80 on the all-time list.
