Air Warrior Combat Memorial Groundbreaking
Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria '85 joined graduates of the Class of 1971 and USAFA Endowment staff to mark the groundbreaking for the new Air Warrior Combat Memorial. The Class of '71 has spent nearly 10 years shepherding the $1.2 million memorial project.

The USAFA Endowment has worked closely with USAFA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria '85 and the Academy's senior leadership to identify the institution's short-term and long-term priorities across all mission elements. This blueprint helps the Endowment and donors have an even stronger impact on cadets as they develop into leaders in the modern profession of arms.

Air Force Academy Fund
Unrestricted gifts in support of the Air Force Academy are directed to areas with the greatest need. The Air Force Academy Fund is the unrestricted fund that allows Academy leadership to respond to immediate funding needs and the Endowment to support a variety of cadet programs and graduate programs and services. All 2018 Air Force Academy Fund donors receive a 2019 Air Force Academy Fund calendar.

Pilot Walks a Heritage Pathway Through AF Career
From the beginning, 1st Lt. Michelle Mullins's entire Air Force career has followed a pattern very similar to her parents' experience during their decade in blue. She went into the Air Force Academy, just as her parents. She also met her future husband there, the same as her parents. Upon Academy graduation, Mullins' parents were there to commission their daughter into the officer ranks. Two years later, they would be there again. This time her father would pin on her wings.

New Leader for 60th Air Mobility Wing
In his new job, Col. Jeffrey W. Nelson '97 will be responsible for ensuring the readiness and well-being of nearly 35,000 active-duty, Reserve and civilian employees and their families. The wing's three primary aircraft — the C-5M Super Galaxy, KC-10 Extender and C-17 Globemaster III — participate in air, land and aerial refueling missions, responding to combat humanitarian relief missions.

The Missouri Historical Society has hired Mark Sundlov '98 as director of the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum, which is slated to reopen in November after a two-year, $30 million renovation.

Hockey Standout Aims to Fight Brain Cancer
Chad Demers '15 has been diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma, a severe brain cancer. With the same determination that led him to a state championship, a tremendous junior hockey career and the Dean's List at Air Force Academy, Demers plans to take on brain cancer.

2018 Ten Outstanding Young Americans Announced
Maj. Elliott Milliken '07 was honored as one of the JCI USA 2018 Ten Outstanding Young Americans on Sept. 29, 2018. Through his service, he has also received the Humanitarian Service Medal, Mackay Trophy, Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor, and Jolly Green Association's "Mission of the Year" award.

Academy Cadets Honor 100th Anniversary of Battle of Saint-Mihiel
Air Force Academy cadets traveled to France this month to mark the centennial anniversary of a major World War I battle. Cadets joined French service members and government officials Sept. 22, 2018, in ceremonies honoring the 7,000 allied service troops — including 4,000 U.S. service members — who died in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel, Sept. 12-16, 1918.

An Air Force Academy professor and two cadets were presented with the 2018 Latina Style Distinguished Military Service Award Sept. 6 in Arlington, Virginia. The annual award recognizes women in the military and Department of Defense civilians who enhance the role of Latinas in their organizations.

Furious Comeback Comes Up Just Short
Despite a valiant comeback, the Air Force Academy football team came up just short in a 28-25 defeat to the University of Nevada in Mountain West Conference action Saturday afternoon, Sept. 29, at Falcon Stadium. The Falcons (1-3) scored 15 unanswered points after trailing 28-10 early in the second half, but could not quite come all the way back.

Men's Soccer Rises to the Occasion in Overtime Thriller
Air Force battled to a 2-1 double-overtime win over UTRGV on Saturday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The eighth-ranked Falcons improve to 10-1, 3-0 WAC, with their 10th-straight win of the season, breaking the previous record of nine-straight wins held by the 1986 team.

Men's Cross Country Jumps into USTFCCCA Top 10
The Air Force men's cross country team earned its first top-10 ranking in 15 years this week. It is the first top-10 ranking for the program since the 2003 season and the fifth top-10 placement in program history.
