Air Force Academy Satellite to Lift-off Nov. 19
FalconSAT-6, a satellite designed and built by Air Force Academy cadets, is set to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Nov. 19, 2018. FalconSAT-6 is one of 64 satellites launching on Falcon 9 as part of Space Flight Industries' SSO-A SmallSat Express mission.

Air Force Academy Adds Master Sgt. Chapman to Medal of Honor Wall
The Air Force Academy added Medal of Honor recipient Master Sgt. John Chapman to the Medal of Honor portrait wall in Fairchild Hall. Special guests at the event included Chapman's mother, brother, wife and daughter. He is the first airman to receive the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War.

Los Angeles Rams Practicing at Air Force Academy
Los Angeles had followed the precedent set last year by New England, which practiced in Colorado Springs before playing in similar altitude in Mexico City. The Rams are remaining in Colorado Springs despite the NFL's decision to move the game from Mexico City because of unacceptable field conditions. The practices at the Air Force Academy will be closed to the public.

The Academy's mock trial team took first place at the recent Bulldog Brawl Invitational competition at Gonzaga University in Washington state. Support the team with a gift to the Mock Trial Mission Club Fund.

Special Ops Pilot Chosen for Jabara Award
The Jabara Award for Airmanship is awarded each year to the Academy graduate whose accomplishments demonstrate superior performance in fields directly involving aerospace vehicles. Maj. Marc Catalano, a 2006 Academy graduate, was chosen for the award for his actions while deployed as an aircraft commander to Iraq in support of Operations Inherent Resolve and Resolute Support.

Film Recounts Life of Only Air Force Academy Graduate to Receive Medal of Honor
"Those who have served in uniform understand this kind of sacrifice," said Janine Sijan Rozina, Sijan's younger sister, to an audience that included a fellow prisoner of war and four of Sijan's academy classmates at a private screening of the film at The Broadmoor Hotel Theater. The filmmakers are in talks about how to distribute the documentary.

Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson '82 posted a video in which she appears with iconic Sesame Street character Elmo and pink-and-purple fairy-in-training Abby Cadabby to teach kids about the importance of learning about science, technology, engineering and mathematics — or STEM.

Path from Air Force General to NBA Head of Referee Operations
After 36 years in the Air Force, where Michelle Johnson '81 served as Air Force aide to President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton, and as lieutenant general and superintendent of the Air Force Academy, Johnson retired in October 2017. Two weeks later, she joined the NBA, leading the recruitment, training, development and evaluation of the league's officials.

Some youngsters dream of playing professional baseball. Some dream of becoming a fighter pilot. Griffin Jax '17 is in position to fulfill both lifelong dreams. A lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, he currently is pitching in the Arizona Fall League as a member of the Minnesota Twins organization.

Air Force Academy Cadets Take Shell Trophy, Defeat Army at Cyber Competition
The competition pitted teams of cadets against each other in cyberspace where they wrestled with software flaws and vulnerable servers allowing teams to exploit the system weaknesses of the opposing team and "capture" each other's flags. The goal of the competition was to control and compromise the opposing team's computer system.
