Air Force Academy Cadets Rose to Challenge of Rescuing Lost Hikers
Matthew Olsen, a freshman at the Air Force Academy, didn't set out to climb his first fourteener thinking he and his fellow cadets would be heroes. At least not until he and the seven other cadets and three officers in the USAFA Mountaineering Club stumbled upon two lost, panicking hikers. The USAFA Mountaineering Club will be honored March 15 at the American Red Cross Colorado Springs Hometown Heroes Dinner.

Next leader of Global Strike Command Nominated
President Donald Trump has nominated the next leader of Air Force Global Strike Command, which oversees the nation's intercontinental ballistic missiles and strategic bombers. Lt. Gen. Timothy Ray '85, the current deputy commander for U.S. European Command in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany, has been tapped to replace current commander Gen. Robin Rand '79, who has led Global Strike Command since July 2015. Also, Maj. Gen. David Thompson '85 was nominated to become the next vice commander of Air Force Space Command.

Veteran Pilot Keeps Her Wings While Leading 109th Airlift Wing
Col. Michele Kilgore '92 has worn the Air Force uniform since five days after her high school graduation and flown everything from fighter jets to tankers in the 30 years since. After she took over as commander of the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing in October, she added the C-130 to the long list of aircraft she's piloted.

Men's Track and Field Claims Mountain West Title
Backed by six event titles and strong performances across the board, the Air Force men's track and field team easily captured the Mountain West title during the final day of conference action in Albuquerque. While the men claimed their seventh overall title, the women placed seventh and recorded their best finish since the league expanded to 11 teams.

The eighth-seed Air Force women's basketball team rolled to a convincing 68-54 over ninth-seed Utah State in the opening game of the 2018 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. In the next round, the team dropped a 60-46 contest to one-seed Boise State.
