Goldfein '83 talked about his experiences in the Air Force — from being a cadet to now holding the highest rank within the service — during the "Firstie Call" at the Air Force Academy, April 18, 2018. Goldfein encouraged each of the cadets to be an inclusive leader and a role model for all.


USAFA Cadets Get 1st Win in 50-year History of Sandhurst Military Skills Competition
Air Force cadets beat Army cadets to take the top prize at the two-day Sandhurst Military Skills Competition April 13-14 at the U.S. Military Academy. It's the first time Air Force Academy cadets have won since the competition started in 1967.

Gornick Joins Endowment Board
Brian Gornick '02, a former professional hockey player and current investment company vice president, has been appointed to the board of directors for the United States Air Force Academy Endowment.

Colonel Jennifer Block Named Academy's Interim Athletics Director
Col. Jennifer Block has been named the interim director of athletics for the Air Force Academy. Block is a 1992 graduate of the Academy where she was a four-year letter winner in volleyball and served as the Athletic Department's Climate and Diversity from 2015 to 2017. Academy officials have begun the search for a permanent replacement for Jim Knowlton who will take over as the director of athletics at the University of California, Berkeley.


Head of Pacific Air Forces to Lead U.S. Northern Command
Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy '86, currently the head of Pacific Air Forces, has been tapped to lead U.S. Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command, commonly referred to as NORAD, the Defense Department announced.


Charleston Southern University Picks Air Force Chief of Chaplains as Its Next President
Charleston Southern University has selected Air Force Chief of Chaplains Maj. Gen. Dondi E. Costin '86 to serve as its third president starting in June. A decorated combat veteran, Costin has served for 32 years in the Air Force, earning the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medal.


Jeff Boleng Named DoD's Special Assistant for Software Acquisition
Jeff Boleng '91, acting chief technology officer at Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute, will serve in a newly created role as special assistant for software acquisition at the Defense Department.


Thriving in Wake of an Assault is Focus of Air Force Academy Summit
The two-day summit included a wide-variety of presenters who discussed topics ranging from the neurobiology of healing and mindfulness to the Academy's response and procedures that occur when an assault is reported.

The Hockey Commissioners Association announced that Falcon hockey defenseman and Air Force Academy cadet Dylan Abood earned the 2018 Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award.

After recording career-best — and conference-leading — performances at the NoCo Challenge this past weekend, senior Tyler Koss and freshman Greg Skage combined for an Air Force sweep of the men's weekly Mountain West track and field awards.
