"Bent Wing" Remembered
The Academy's first deputy commandant, retired Brig. Gen. Benjamin B. Cassiday, recently passed away at the age of 95. A few Air Force Academy graduates from those early classes sent in their remembrances of Cassiday and his impact on their lives.

For This Man, Telling Lowry's Story is a Labor of Love
John Bond's life was shaped by Lowry Air Force Base. Now in his 90s, Bond preserves the history of this thriving Lowry community, one photo at a time. Bond was put in charge of the Air Force Academy dedication ceremonies on July 11, 1955, and since that day, has found himself in many leadership roles at Lowry.

The National Salute is an organization devoted to marking the centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier — Nov. 11, 1921. On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month in 2021, Americans across the United States and foreign lands will pause to recognize those who have sacrificed and those who will sacrifice in the future in the defense of America's "Freedom and Democracy."

The Distinguished Graduate Award recognizes exceptional graduates who have set themselves apart by making extraordinarily significant contributions to our nation, our Academy, and/or their communities. Former Air Force Academy Boss to Head NBA Referee Program
Retired Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson '81 was hired as the NBA's senior vice president and head of referee operations. Johnson, the first woman to lead the academy, is no stranger to the hardwood. The 1981 academy graduate scored 1,706 points for the Falcons' women's basketball squad, making her the second-leading scorer in the history of the team.

109th Airlift Wing Welcomes First Female Commander
Col. Michele Kilgore '92 continues to use her passion for flying to soar to new heights in the military. She was among the first women to fly F-16 fighter jets. She was the first woman to be a group commander at the 174th Attack Wing. On Oct. 15, Kilgore became the first woman to command the 109 Airlift Wing at Stratton Air Base during a change-of-command ceremony.

For those who know him well, Mike "Bear" Belardo '00 is just as comfortable flying an Air Force jet at high-altitude as he is coaching youth sports or fishing. Recently, he accepted command of the Missouri Air National Guard's 131st Maintenance Group.

This Air Force Vet Owns a Century-old Piece of California History
When Gabe Greiss graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1995, he went on to fly the C-130 Hercules as part of a career that lasted 20 years and two months. He commanded a squadron that sent advisors across Latin America, and also served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. The Greiss family now lives in the Buck Mansion, a 126-year-old icon in the city of Vacaville, California.

Junior Matt Koch scored the game-winner as the 19th-ranked Air Force hockey team came from behind for a 3-2 win over Arizona State Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Academy's Cadet Ice Arena. Air Force swept the two-game series and improved to 3-0-1 this season.
